Flûtes de Salon Sunday, April 12, 2026: 3pm-4:30pm Classics at the Merc "Beauty and the Blend" (Cindy Anne Broz, Marion Garver, Emily Harrington, Elvin Schlanger)
Flûtes de Salon presents a program of original works that feature the different size flutes in the flute family (c flute, piccolo, alto, bass, contra’ alto, and contrabass) in combination. Each size flute (bookmarked by piccolo on the high end and contrabass on the low end) has its unique timbre, range, and magic. When people imagine a flute quartet, they might picture four “regular” (c flutes) playing together – and this combination has the beautiful sonority of homogeny – we love it, too! But the unique tonal symbiosis of mixed-size flutes in chamber music is full of a very special kind of characters. We specialize in performing on these instrument combinations. From beatboxing to long sonorous lines, this combo has a sound all its own. Featured composers include Adrienne Albert, Herman Beeftink, Marc Berthomieu, Nicole Chamberlain, Daniel Dorff, Alan Leech, Georg Frederick McKay, and Catherine McMichael,
